The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS)

Project Description

The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) evolved from the European Intraocular Implant Club which was established in 1981. ESCRS seeks to promote and support research in the field of intraocular lens implantation and refractive surgery and the dissemination of the useful results thereof. ESCRS has over 7,000 members from 130 countries world-wide.

In collaboration with our UK events branch, my team was tasked with production of Eurotimes, the client’s bi-monthly magazine and ET Today, a daily onsite publication for the ESCRS Annual Conference. Eurotimes magazine, which has been in published since 1996, covers educational content on ophthalmic research, ESCRS initiatives, and other major industry events in Europe and North America. Along with full production of Eurotimes, we completed a comprehensive redesign of the magazine that was a finalist for the Ozzie Design Awards.

ET Today is fully designed and published daily during the ESCRS Annual Conference, an event that takes place in Europe and draws over 15,000 attendees from around the globe. The event is executed by the UK team while a small team travels from the US to oversee the publication. As the lead designer, I ensured significant preparation was completed prior to our arrival as well as executed the layout of the designs during the event. I worked alongside photographers, writers, and oversaw a junior designer to produce the magazines that were then printed overnight for delivery to the venue the following day. This fast-paced, collaborative environment allowed me to enhance my creative and management skills.
