Society of Defense Financial Management (SDFM)

Project Description

The Society of Defense Financial Management (SDFM) is the non-profit educational and professional organization for persons, military and civilian, involved in the financial management profession who support the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the intelligence community. The organization serves more than 14,000 members and over 100 chapters.

Faced with significant challenges in the ever-changing National Defense Finance space, SDFM needed to diversify its approach to engaging its members. As the designer for this client, I worked with a marketing team to pivot SDFM from their single annual event to a wide portfolio of regional events, online resources, and print publications. From concept to execution, this required strong adherence to brand standards while simultaneously adding new pieces to the existing brand ecosystem. I built a system of templates for all applicable assets and managed ongoing creation of design pieces.

I initiated the full redesign of the client’s flagship publication, The Armed Forces Comptroller Journal that has been in production since 1956. After working with editors, staff, and volunteers from SDFM to design and publish this journal, I was able to identify areas that could be improved through updated content and layout. This redesign is currently in progress.
